Job Description

Position Summary: Prepares high quality food items that are nutritious, appealing, and palatable for patients, cafeteria patrons, and catering patrons. Cooks patient meals taking into account diet order, standardized recipes, food allergies and patient meal selections.

Position Qualifications:
1. Ability to meet minimum hospital hiring standards.
2. High school or equivalent education.
3. Food Handler’s Permit
4. 1-3 years previous experience; strong culinary skills

Job Requirements

Essential Job Functions*:
1. Handles food in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulations with regard to food safety. Ensures that all food is cooked to proper temperature; documents food temperature on cook’s temperature log. Documents storage temperatures daily; immediately reports any unacceptable readings to director or lead cook. Cools food and stores leftovers properly; labels and dates all production; immediately discards any outdated product.
2. Prepares and cooks food items according to diet and recipes ensuring good quality and palatability.
3. Cooks patient meals taking into account diet order, standardized recipes, food allergies and patient meal selections.
4. Attractively plates patient meals using appropriate serving size and garnish. Serves patient line quickly and accurately.
5. Food is consistently ready on time for specified meal periods.
6. Prepares food in proper quantities based on expected volume. Communicates with lead cook to ensure that all production and next day prep is completed in a timely manner. Documents production for café and doctors lounge using waste sheets.
7. Maintains a clean work area and consistently cleans up after self. Performs daily and deep cleaning tasks as delegated by director or lead cook.
8. Reduces the risk of foodborne illness through good personal hygiene. Clothing and aprons are kept clean. Hair restraints are worn when working in food preparation or service areas. Follows hand hygiene policies & procedures. Reports any contagious illness in accordance with hospital policy. Does not eat, drink or chew gum in food preparation or service areas.
