Job Description

Position Summary:
Supports dietary director with day to day management of the dietary department, including staff oversight. Ensures excellent customer service in all areas of the Nutrition Services Department through planning, implementing, and training. Works closely with Department Director to oversee new and established department policies. Acts a resource to other employees and helps to build a positive culture .

Job Requirements

Position Qualifications:
• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Two years institutional kitchen experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
• Food handlers’ permit required
• Knowledge of therapeutic diets and food allergies.
• Cash handling experience.
• Basic computer skills, including MS Word and Excel.
• Minimum one year cooking experience.

Essential Job Functions*:
• Works with Manager to ensure strict adherence to all hospital, Joint Commission, OSHA, and health department standards. Ensures safety and cleanliness of entire work area.
• Daily communications with director regarding all aspects of the day-to-day operations and all customers in a timely professional manner.
• Oversees dietary staff. Assists in training staff and acts as a resource to other employees. Provides coaching where needed.
• Notifies director of concerns and assists with appropriate documentation. Participates in annual evaluations, performance appraisals, and progressive discipline, as requested by director.
• Supervises patient meal service on a daily basis. Oversees food production and quality control.
• Helps to build a positive culture and motivates others to give their best. Communicates effectively with other employees.
• Replaces employees who are ill or absent to help ensure that all positions are covered. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency when covering for other positions.
• Ability to resolve both patient and staff complaints in a timely manner.
• Assists with department record keeping and ordering, storing of supplies.
• Must be willing to work weekends.

• Basic computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, Electronic Medical Records software
• Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
• Interpersonal verbal communication and basic math skills

• Strong leadership and managerial skills
