Job Description

SHIFT: M-F, PRIMARILY DAY SHIFT, HOWEVER, MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ALL SHIFTS AS NEEDED

Position Summary: Operates, maintains and performs minor and major repair of hospital mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building control and life safety systems. Perform minor carpentry, painting, drywall and other aesthetic type repairs. May operate, maintain and repair hospital telecommunications equipment. Completes building rounds/equipment inspections, monitors and responds to equipment alarms, and acts as a responder for fire and utility related emergencies. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance as assigned by Engineering Supervisor. Maintains a basic understanding of codes and standards under which the facility and equipment are required to operate. Responsible for working in an on-call capacity to support after-hours engineering needs of the hospital. Works both independently and as part of a crew.

Job Requirements

Position Qualifications:
1. Ability to meet minimum hospital hiring standards.
2. High school or GED
3. Graduate of a vocational/technical school/program in one or more building trades preferred.
4. 5+ years experience in facility maintenance (preferably in a healthcare setting).

Essential Job Functions:*
1. Operates, maintains, adjusts and repairs hospital and plant equipment and life safety systems. Performs advanced troubleshooting and repair of hospital systems and equipment with little need for assistance.
2. Perform minor carpentry, painting, drywall and other aesthetic type repairs.
3. Completes building rounds/equipment inspections, monitors and responds to equipment alarms, and acts as a responder for fire and utility related emergencies.
4. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance as assigned by Engineering Supervisor.
5. Maintains a basic understanding of codes and standards under which the facility and equipment are required to operate.
6. Responsible for working in an on-call capacity to support after-hours engineering needs of the hospital.
7. Ability to research and procure materials, parts and supplies necessary to affect maintenance and repair of equipment. Seeks professional assistance as needed in providing substitute specifications.
8. Meets deadlines to ensure requested work is completed in a timely manner as assigned by Supervisor.
9. Keeps work area neat and orderly to reflect a professional work environment.
10. Effectively uses work assignment tracking system to demonstrate assignment completeness and timeliness.
11. Demonstrates ability to complete tasks with minimal guidance utilizing available resources.
