Job Description

Position Summary: This position is responsible for painting, finishing, mixing, matching and maintaining a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures.

Position Qualifications:
1. Ability to meet minimum hospital hiring standards
2. High school diploma or GED
3. Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices and tools used in the painting trade
4. Ability to properly apply paints
5. Knowledge of and ability to mix paint and to match colors
6. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
7. Ability to work independently

Essential Job Functions include the following. Other duties or tasks may be requested or assigned by immediate supervisor, his/her designee, or other management/supervisor.*
1. Prepares, primes, sands, seals, patches and paints furniture, surfaces, buildings, and fixtures utilizing all types of painting materials such as varnish, lacquer, shellac, enamel, latex, epoxy, water-proofing and heat resistant finishes
2. Fill nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster or other filler
3. Cleans walls to ensure proper adherence
4. Tape off areas when needed
5. Apply touchups or second coats
6. Remove paint splatters when finished
7. Cover surfaces with cloth or plastic to ensure protection
8. Ability to install sheetrock and required materials and estimate costs
9. Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps and electric switch covers prior to painting
10. Operates, cleans and maintains all painting equipment, including brushes, rollers, sprayers and electronic sprayers, pumps, etc.
11. Safely stores and labels all materials
12. Erect scaffolding or set up ladder to perform tasks above ground level
13. Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds and equipment by following established inspection procedures
14. Offer assistance and advice on materials, designs and color
15. Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service
16. Other duties could include working in other areas of the Plant Operations department to provide support during absences or shortage of staff in other trades or to perform duties associated with light construction projects
