Job Description

Position Summary: Accountable for the delivery of quality pharmaceutical services, the Clinical
Staff Pharmacist utilizes professional knowledge, experience, and skills to provide safe and effective drug therapy. Complies with regulatory agency standards such as CMS Core Measures, Joint Commission standards, state and federal jurisprudence and participates in quality improvement programs Supervises technical support staff by ensuring efficient resource utilization and corrects medication dispensing when checked. The Pharmacist checks dosage adjustments of the medication ordered and administration methods determined by age of the patient as established in policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

Position Qualifications:
1. Ability to meet minimum hospital hiring standards.
2. Bachelor’s of Science or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree
3. WA Pharmacist License
4. AHA Healthcare BLS

Essential Job Functions*:
1. Accurately evaluates medication orders and intervenes when appropriate based on known drug allergies, duplication of therapy, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, drug-disease interactions, and adverse drug reactions.
2. Consults and/or collaborates with medical teams to evaluate, design, implement, monitor and modify pharmacotherapy regimens based on standards of care and individual patient needs to ensure effective and safe patient care.
3. Participates in clinical pharmacy initiatives, patient teaching, code support, effective use of dosing protocols, tracking of clinical interventions.
4. Provides drug information as needed to clinical staff.
5. Supervises the actions of Pharmacy Interns and Certified Pharmacy Technicians
6. Provides basic technical support for automated dispensing machines and other pharmacy computer systems.
7. Maintains compliance with all state and federal regulatory requirements.
8. Accurately compounds and dispenses medications.
9. Maintains accountability within controlled substance drug inventory.
10. Assists with orientation and training of new pharmacy staff as well as nursing staff when applicable.
11. Accepts personal accountability for own professional development. Assumes the responsibility for clinical competency and professional development.
12. Performs any special projects assigned by Director of Pharmacy.
