PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS AN ON-CALL,PRN POSITION WITH NO GUARANTEED HOURS.

Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician Level A is accountable for providing technical support of the Pharmacy Department. Completes all tasks in its entirety such that the pharmacist checks the final product for dispensing to the nursing staff.

Position Qualifications:
1. Ability to meet minimum hospital hiring standards.
2. High School Diploma or GED
3. Graduate of Vocational/Technical School
4. WA Pharmacy Technician certification

Essential Job Functions*:
1. Prepares, records, and delivers all medications including all IV admixtures under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. When preparing IV medications utilizes strict aseptic technique and appropriate handling precautions as required by USP 797. Completes daily hood checks and weekly eyewash station as well as hood sterility.
2. Accepts and signs for all medications delivered from the wholesaler prior to stocking on the shelves. When preparing any controlled substances for dispensing, counts prior to and after signing out from the pharmacy vault are required prior to a pharmacist checking Completes a narcotic count in the pharmacy vault twice a week – any discrepancy is reported to a Pharmacist.
3. Completes monthly unit inspections in areas where medications are stored throughout the hospital and affiliated physician clinics. Informs responsible supervisor of each area of deficiencies from monthly inspection and leaves a copy with the supervisor. Responsible for pulling all outdated medications found in each area and documents on inspection form.
4. Dates and re-stocks IV solutions in the PACU, ambulatory area and also re-stocks all anesthesia carts (main OR, 4th OR’s and the epidural carts) to their required PAR.
5. Is accurate when filling Pyxis fill sheets and assists other staff (professional and technical) with any Pyxis issues. Fills floorstock for departments throughout the hospital when required.
6. Understands all department processes and consistently exhibits competency as well as maintaining proficiency when performing duties. Works in conjunction with other hospital staff when required and helps to provide the best care to the patients.
7. Informs the pharmacy purchaser of medications that are needed and listing those medications on the order log. Perform daily billing tasks for the pharmacy service to ensure efficient processing and revenue.
8. Assists with orientation and training of new pharmacy technicians, technician students and other hospital staff when applicable.
