Job Description

Position Summary: The Department Secretary assists the Surgery Department with clerical functions to include scheduling staff, surgery cases, and reconciliation of charges.

Position Qualifications:
1. Ability to meet minimum hospital hiring standards
2. High School Diploma or GED
3. Typing and Computer Skills Required

Essential Job Functions*:
1. Provides overall clerical support to the surgery department, ensuring fast turn around time, accuracy, and completeness of work. Identifies, develops and implement improvements to continuously meet the needs of the department. Efficiently answers multi-line phone in a professional manner. Enters O.R. charges accurately and timely. Enters & tracks implants.
2. Effectively maintains O.R. board and rooms closing/add-ons. Updates call schedule daily and provides copies to each department and HS. Compiles Schedules and post board in the evening.
3. Schedules O.R. cases appropriately per Surgical Services policy.
4. Enters & retrieves lab and radiology requests as needed.
5. Reconciles tissue log – Receiving and implanted. Maintains spine and total joint logs.
6. Completes requests for Special Order items in Medibuy. Starts CPM process. Pulls Purchase Option Completion Form. Compiles End of Month Reports as needed for OR and Accounting Department.
7. Be knowledgeable and accurate with Host.
8. Updates Inventory as needed.
